Artist's Comments

Larry the chinchilla, born Easter Sunday 2005 and hand raised, sadly passed over the rainbow bridge Dec. 14th. He died while we were on the way to the vet. He was fine earlier that morning and suddenly became lethargic. I know its is not uncommon for chins to show little or no symptoms of illness and to pass suddenly. So little is know in the veternary community about these guys as the have only been domesticated for a short time in the scheme of things. We will miss him terribly.
On a lighter note we are adopting 2 female chins soon. One is an adult hetro beige and the other is her child a silver mosaic. It seems like when we loose a chin we get, unexpectedly 2 more. I do not know If I have said before but this fall we adopted/rescued an adult male we named Budda (since he was so fat :giggle: he is at a more healthy weight now) he had a huge fur bitting problem and was very stressed out in his previous home. He is fully fured now and has an excellent coat and should be a wonderful mate for the new beige female.

:( awwwww... he his so little. do they get big?
Aww poor little guy...hes in a better place

I want to see a piccie of the girls hen you get them :giggle:

I love chinchillas, cute little animals...I hate to see people who barely know anything about them owning them (like a child's pet). Not that I'm against their domestication. I just think that they should more be considered exotic pets (not really a family pet that are just nice to have) and are for advanced owners. Same with rabbits, most birds, ferrets, most reptiles and fish, and sugar gliders. Those are the kinds of animals that people should have to apply to get, not just be able to buy them right there at the store.
